2008
This is the first drawing of the year.  I started it as
an exercise in drawing (look about half the way
down the page to see the first part of the drawing
http://mark4art.com/my_art/2007_page_4.html),
but I got bored with it.  I started adding things
one by one until a story emerged.  I read a
proposal for a show, and that is why the piece
grew like it did.  I will submit the piece for the
show.  The piece,
Iraqi Knights and Civilian Life,
(PTSD)
, is done in charcoal and colored pencil.
The size is approximately 30x22.5".
price: $900 unframed
This is another gun powder drawing.  I started it
by throwing gun powder on the page and
lighting it on fire.  I then added gun powder
again and again until the image came to the
page.  Then I tinted the image with water color
paint.  I love this piece.  The size is
approximately 28x20".
price: $1000 unframed

I was invited to do a piece for a show that is
centered on the movie The Warriors.  Of course I
jumped at the chance.  I knew almost immediately
that I wanted to do this piece,
No Reason, and why.
I loved that Luther was just a bad guy.  He shot
Cyrus and he was volatile in all of his scenes,
which are two good reasons for the use of gun
powder as a medium.  This image is when he
found the Warriors at Coney Island and was
calling them out to "play."  The piece is drawn
with gun powder, propane torch, and wood
burning tool, and it meausres approximately 21x21".
price: $1000 unframed
This is the finished piece from the mock-up on the top of this page.
It has been six months in the making, and I think it turned out just
great.  There is so much movement, from the fish at the bottom to the
birds and the boy fishing--not to mention the fact that you can see
how the entire thing operates.  Click
here to see more images and
watch it move.
The Pier is made from found stuff put into a found
box, and the size is 20"high by 17" wide by 9 inches deep.

I started this
painting and
this drawing at
about the same
time.  I've
decided to work
on me through
self portraits
this summer.  I
am excited to
see how it goes.
 The painting is
in oils on
canvas, and it is
about 30x24.
The drawing is
pencil on paper,
and it measures
24x18.  Practice,
practice,
practice.
I've just started working on this kinetic
piece.  I am calling it
Section 8 because of
the "crazy person" early out of the army
and the public assistance given to poor
folks.  Even though I didn't get a Section 8
from the army, I did leave early.  And
while we didn't receive section 8 as a
family, my mother did get other public
assistance.  So as I worked in my
sketchbook and wrote about the box, I
knew I'd need 8 movements.  Today,
November 2, 2008, I am working on getting
power to each of the sections.
This is a
pretty junky
image of a
flying tiger
that I did for
the best
Gianna on the
planet.  I miss
that little girl.
